Over four weeks, our learners tested ideas during science practicals, found the confidence to speak in French, joined dances they had once been unsure about and discovered the satisfaction of making something with their own hands.
Along the way, new friendships formed, learners became more confident in the water and challenges felt easier to approach when children worked through them together.
This was the spirit of Summer Camp 2026 at Pearl of Africa International School in Entebbe. Throughout July, learners moved between English and French, science, mathematics, creative activities, sports, swimming, cookery and team-building. This variety gave each child different ways to take part and discover what held their attention.
During science practicals, learners observed closely, tested ideas and asked questions about what they saw. Mathematics encouraged them to recognise patterns, think through problems and try different approaches. In language classes, they listened, spoke and gradually became more comfortable expressing themselves in English and French.
The holiday setting gave children more time to explore an idea at their own pace. They could try, adjust, ask another question and return to something they had not understood the first time. This helped them develop the patience to work through challenges and enjoy the satisfaction of finding their own way forward.
Creativity also shaped much of the programme. Through music and dance, learners responded to rhythm, remembered sequences and expressed themselves alongside others. Arts and crafts gave them room to explore colour, shape and materials, then follow their choices through to a finished piece.
Cookery called for careful attention as children measured ingredients, followed steps and waited to see what their efforts would produce. Whether they were preparing a dish, completing an artwork or practising a dance, they experienced the pride of seeing something take shape through their own effort.
Sports and swimming brought movement, enjoyment and new challenges into each week. Learners strengthened their coordination, practised unfamiliar skills and became more comfortable joining in with others.
Confidence looked different for every child. It could be seen in a learner swimming a little farther, joining a game, volunteering an answer, explaining an idea to a group or continuing after a difficult attempt. These moments showed children becoming more willing to take part and trust what they could do.
Learning alongside others was part of nearly every activity. Team-building challenges encouraged learners to listen, share ideas, take turns and work towards a common goal. Friendships grew as children encouraged one another and discovered that someone else might offer a useful way of approaching a problem.
There were also moments of hesitation, disagreement and trial and error, which naturally come with working in a group. With guidance, learners practised speaking respectfully, considering different ideas and finding a way forward together. These lessons continue to matter in classrooms, playgrounds, family life and every setting where cooperation is needed.

Summer Camp 2026 brought these parts of learning together through four weeks of curiosity, shared experiences and friendship.
As the programme came to an end, learners carried more than completed artwork, new recipes and improved swimming skills. They left with new words, practical skills, stronger friendships, new interests and greater confidence when trying something unfamiliar.
The four weeks reminded us how much children can discover when they are given time to make choices, remain curious and stay engaged in what they are doing. We are grateful to every learner, teacher and member of staff who made Summer Camp 2026 so enjoyable and worthwhile.
